Nutts Corner Raceway 31st July (2013)

Craig McConnell in action on a very wet track

F2’s Conor splashes to Hat Trick

Conor Hughes made the best of the extremely wet conditions at Nutts Corner Raceway to record a fine hat trick of wins in the Brisca F2’s.  Craig McConnell looked very fast in heat 1, gradually closing the gap on the leading Hughes before a misfire crept into his machine.  This allowed Hughes to increase his lead and go on to take the win, with McConnell nursing his car home in second.  The weather had deteriorated in heat 2 but it didn’t slow Hughes as he went on to take another win with Christopher Kincaid the runner up.  Antrim man Hughes completed a perfect nights racing by splashing to victory in the final, with Ryan McCrory second and Kincaid third.

James Strikes Gold!

Ballymena’s James Goldie was the man to beat in the speed stock section, Goldie completed the very damp meeting unbeaten.  His campaign started with two fine heat wins before he turned it up a notch to record a very commanding final win with Ricky Purdy runner up and Curtis Greer third.

Flyin’ Ryan does the double

The hard charging saloons stock cars made their return to Nutts Corner for what was their last outing on home soil before the World Championship next weekend in Cowdenbeath (Scotland).  Numbers were well down compared to recent meetings but never the less among those present were 3 out of the 4 Northern Ireland representatives for the World showdown.  Matty Stirling records a run away win in heat 1 before the current Irish Champion Ryan Wright from Cullybackey took over to take the win in heat 2.  In an evening of very heavy rain the track was slippery and whilst Stirling and McIvor battled for the lead, Wright dealt them a blow and went safely into the top spot and went onto take the win.

Logan spoils Stewarts Run!!

Michael Logan stepped in to deny Ryan Stewart the perfect hat trick in the 1300 Stock Cars.  Stewart was the man to beat in heat 1 taking the win with Richard Taylor in second.  Heat 2 was a carbon copy but Ballyclare man Michael Logan put his foot down in the final and hauled his Toyota Starlet to the front and went to take the win with Stewart the runner-up.

There was also a children’s fun cycle race of one lap of the circuit, which was won by Corey Dawson – Stirling in extreme weather conditions.
