Guy Martin Takes A Treble At Ulster Grand Prix 2013

 Guy Martin in action

Heavy rain was forecasted for Saturday’s International Metzler Ulster Grand Prix race and it didn’t disappoint, but by road closure at 9.30am the rain had eased off and strong winds had blown the rain clouds away to leave dry roads for an all action race day.

Thirty one year old Lincolnshire man Guy Martin who has recently signed up to another year’s contract with the local team Tyco TAS Suzuki secured three wins, which included two Superbike wins and one Supersport victory on the day.

In the main Superbike race Guy Martin held off County Antrim rider Michael Dunlop on the TT Legend Honda and kept New Zealand rider Bruce Anstey at bay in the second Superbike race and the opening Supersport race.

Englishman Martin took an early lead but Michael Dunlop kept the pressure on and reeled in Martin by lap three of a seven-lap race.  Dunlop chased Martin all the way for the win but it wasn’t to be.  Martin crossed the line 0.05 seconds ahead of Dunlop and brother William took the third place 10.67 seconds adrift.

Michael Dunlop won the Superstock race for the third year in a row.  Older brother William on his Yamaha 600cc took an emotional victory in the second Supersport race.  Ivan Lintin took the honours in the Supertwin race and veteran Ian Lougher took his 18th win in the 125cc class.

The ever popular Bruce Anstey

A warm welcome was given to international competitors Michal “INDI” Dokoupil and his partner Veronika Hankocy from the Czech Republic.  This was Veronika’s first appearance at this international event. We will be looking forward to seeing the Czech duo in action at the last road race meeting of this year at Killalane in September.
